America tops the list of countries importing ready-made clothes from Egypt in 2022
The United States of America topped the list of countries importing ready-made clothes from Egypt.
Data from the Ready-made Garments Export Council revealed that the total imports of America reached $1.317 billion in 2022, compared to $1.181 billion in 2021, an increase of 11%.
• Ready-made garment exports
Exports of the ready-made garment sector amounted to $2.516 billion for the first time in 2022, a growth of 22% compared to $2.063 billion in exports in 2021.
• Targets of the ready-made garment sector
Marie-Louis Bechara, head of the Ready-to-Wear Export Council, said that the targets include achieving a growth of 20-30%.
Exports are expected to reach $2.5 billion in 2023 because the council continues to enhance the export capabilities of ready-made garment factories.
Lewis noted that:
• Disbursement of export support within a period not exceeding 40 days from the submission of invoices to provide the necessary liquidity for factories.
• Work to reduce the procedures of the Public Authority for Industrial Development.
• Facilitate the process of clearing the documents required to facilitate the sector.
• Granting tax exemption from 2 to 3 years to encourage investment in major industrial zones.
• Granting exemptions to Upper Egypt factories to cover the first years of expenses for poor infrastructure and lack of services, and reduce ACI customs clearance fees.
• Supporting the industrial sectors
The state is interested in the spinning, weaving and clothing sector, by providing various aspects of support to manufacturers and launching initiatives to support and deepen local manufacturing, in order to issue ready-made garments and export them to the world.
