A recent study showed "the development of e-commerce in Egypt during the period (2011-2021)".

The study issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said that Egypt ranked first at the level of Arab countries in terms of the percentage of e-commerce exports to total merchandise trade, as it increased from 0.2 percent to 2.9 percent during the period (2011-2021).

Hong Kong ranked first in the world in terms of the proportion of e-commerce exports to total merchandise trade, rising from 42.5% to 61.2% during the period (2011-2021).

Online trade

Egypt ranked 109th globally and 13th at the level of Arab countries in 2020, according to the readiness index for online trade between businesses and consumers published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The UAE and Saudi Arabia come in the first ranks at the level of the Arab countries in 2020, according to the readiness index for online trade between companies and consumers, and occupy the 37th and 49th places, respectively, in the world.

Libya and Morocco came in the last ranks before Egypt at the level of the Arab countries in 2020, according to the readiness index for online trade between companies and consumers, and they occupy the 85th and 95th places, respectively, in the world.

The number of fixed line subscribers reached 11 million, while the total number of mobile subscribers reached 103.5 million in 2021.

The number of Internet users through mobile phones reached 63.4 million, and the number of USB Modem subscribers reached 2.1 million in 2021.

Heavy industries 

on related context, president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, stressed the vital role that heavy industries play in the development process taking place in all sectors throughout the country, as well as their contribution to reducing the pressure on foreign currency by benefiting from local raw materials.

He also directed the relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to support the development of heavy industries in Egypt, including providing them with the necessary financing and infrastructure.
