Dr. Assem Al-Jazzar, Minister of Housing, stated that the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque has become in its best form, after development and restoration work, and raising efficiency, in preparation for receiving worshipers at the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan.

The area of the mosque is 28,500 square meters

Major General Mahmoud Nassar, head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, said that the area of the mosque is 28,500 square meters, of which 13,200 square meters are halls for prayer, and the rest of the space is outdoor spaces used for prayer on peak days and holidays, in addition to a service area that includes the establishment of a men’s toilet and raising the efficiency of a women’s toilet. And the establishment of an administrative building for the mosque.

Development work

The development work included restoring all the archaeological elements of the mosque, raising the efficiency of the groundwater level reduction network and the rainwater drainage network, establishing a fire protection network, developing internal and external lighting and acoustics networks, expanding the main entrance to the mosque from Hassan Al-Anwar Street to be 30 meters wide, as well as establishing an outdoor yard to receive visitors.

Developing the historic area of "Fustat" and establishing the "Fustat Gardens"

The minister added that these works come within the framework of the plan to develop the historic "Fustat" area and establish the "Fustat" Gardens, which are being implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction through the Authority for the Renewal of the Islamic and Fatimid Cairo neighborhoods, To receive worshipers during the holy month of Ramadan, starting with "Tarawih" prayers on the night of the first day of Ramadan.
