EGP2 billion .. Saudi Egyptian partnership to develop Shepheard Hotel    

The recent period witnessed a partnership between Saudi Arabia and Egypt to develop the historic “Shepherd” Hotel. 

 These are the most prominent Saudi-Egyptian partnerships in public business sector companies. 

The recent period witnessed a partnership between the Saudi Al-Sharif Holding Company and the "Egoth" company, which is affiliated with the Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels, to develop the historic Shepherd Hotel.

Historic Shepherd Hotel Development

- Al-Sharif Hotels and Tourism Company signed a contract for the contracting works for the historic Shepherd Hotel with “SIAC Holding” for contracting.

 - The hotel's scheduled reopening date is 2024.

 - It is managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, which operates 34 hotels and 7 residential complexes in 24 countries around the world.

- The Egyptian General Company for Tourism and Hotels "EGOTH", affiliated to The Ministry of Public Business Sector, has contracted with Al Sharif Company for Hotels and Tourism to develop, finance, operate and manage the historic Shepherd Hotel.

 - The aim of the partnership is to bring it back to work with a five-star hotel service level in accordance with internationally recognized standards.

 -The investment cost of the development is about more than 2 billion pounds.

- The value of the contract signed for the first phase of the contracting works between Al Sharif Hotels and Tourism and SIAC Contracting is about half a billion pounds.

 - It includes: excavation work and the construction of the Shepherd Hotel annex at the back of the building, on an area of ​​1,000 square meters with a height of 14 floors, and the construction of a garage up to four floors underground in the annex building.

 - Development and rehabilitation of the hotel's main building in accordance with the standards required by the Mandarin Oriental International Company and its contractor to manage the hotel.

Information about the historic Shepherd Hotel

The “Shepherd” Hotel is one of the oldest historical hotels in Egypt. It was established in 1841 AD, and was based in the Azbekiya neighborhood and was burned in the Cairo fire. 

The current Shepherd Hotel was rebuilt in the Garden City area in front of the Nile River, which is classified as one of the oldest hotels on the regional level.

 Shepherd's Hotel witnessed many important historical events; In 1869, Cairo's celebrations of the grand opening of the Suez Canal were held in one of the hotel's grand halls.

Khedive Ismail held a dinner in the hotel in honor of the French Empress Eugenie, after which the hotel became the preferred place for the residence of leaders, kings, presidents and prominent personalities in the world. 

It was also the seat of the Arab delegations that came to Egypt to announce the establishment of the League of Arab States in 1946.
