Before using wind energy.. $7 billion in revenue from the Suez Canal in 2021
Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority, revealed that the canal will become a green channel by 2023, and that it has taken proactive steps in this direction.
He explained that there are 16 stations along the Suez Canal to monitor ships transiting the canal, which have been completely changed from regular energy to renewable energy using wind and solar energy.
This came during a press conference held by the Suez Canal Authority, in the presence of Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority, and Kitak Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), at the new Marina building on the banks of the Canal in Ismailia Governorate.
· Convert all cars to liquefied gas
The head of the authority said that all guide cars above 150 were completely converted to liquefied gas, and an agreement was made with a company to participate in the collection of garbage and solid and liquid waste for ships before crossing the canal, whether from Suez or Port Said.
Last year, the authority received three boats to combat pollution from France, and we give training on combating pollution. It is also working on providing incentives for ships that use liquefied gas to encourage them to do what the climate conference calls for, explaining that the authority is in line with the current climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Rabie pointed out that the Suez Canal succeeded during the Corona crisis in overcoming the crisis that affected all seaports that paralyzed it and closed some of them, except for the Suez Canal, which was not affected and did not close for one hour. Through the strict measures, no guide was infected with the Corona virus.
· 7 billion dollars in 2021
Rabie added, “We also achieved during the past year 2021, an achievement in the highest transit rate of ships and the return in dollars compared to previous years, and the transit of more than 22 thousand ships with a tonnage of one billion three hundred and twenty-eight tons of goods that crossed the canal, and a return in dollars of 7 million dollars was achieved for the canal during the past year.”
It should be noted the confidence of the shipping lines and agencies in the Suez Canal about the high rate of ships crossing the new Suez Canal, which reached 68 ships per day, which indicates the importance of the new Suez Canal and the role that the authority and the canal play in maintaining supply chains in the whole world.
The Suez Canal Authority had completely switched to digital transformation and had approved with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the establishment of the first eco-friendly yacht city in Ismailia.
