$2 trillion.. Size of corruption in the world
The scale of global corruption is $2 trillion...and the money is smuggled to specific countries
Amer Al-Jawahiry, an investment and development expert, said that the scale of corruption in the world has reached about two trillion dollars, according to reports of Transparency International.
The smuggling of money, for example, does not happen when it leaves Iraq and goes to Egypt, for example, but it does leave countries and go to specific countries.
He stated that the world now has only civil society organizations, large private sector institutions, and the media, to stop the phenomenon of corruption, but coordination must be made between them so that local administrations do not consider it interference in their affairs, even from local organizations.
Corruption in the world
On Saturday, the World Bank revealed the high cost to the world of corruption, as well as some of its consequences.
The World Bank said in a tweet that "its estimates indicate that more than $ 2.6 trillion (equivalent to about 5 percent of global GDP) is wasted annually as a result of corruption."
The World Bank added that it is currently seeking, not only to determine the extent of corruption, but also to reveal the consequences and cost of this corruption on various aspects of life.
"Corruption is not a crime without a victim, but rather we are all victims of corruption," said Patrick Alley, one of the founders of "Global Witness" a nongovernmental organization based in Britain that supports anti-corruption efforts and the best use of resources.
For her part, Delia Ferreira Rubio, of Transparency International, warned of the seriousness of institutional corruption, saying, "The cost of institutional corruption cannot be measured in numbers, but it affects the future of countries," noting that the cost of corruption "reaches human lives and their future”.
Arturo Herrera Gutierrez, International Director of Global Governance Practices at the World Bank, said that the bank is adopting different methods to tackle corruption, such as "increasing institutionalization and strengthening trust in governments."
