During the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in Sohag Governorate today; to inspect and open a number of projects, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly revealed that Upper Egypt and its youth are at the top of the national action agenda at this stage.

He pointed out that the volume of investments that have been pumped into the governorates of Upper Egypt over the past eight years amounted to 1.5 trillion pounds.

He explained that these investments are out of a total of EGP 7 trillion, investments that have been implemented or will be completed at the level of the Republic, and they represent about a quarter of the total investments that the state spent and were allocated to the governorates of Upper Egypt.

He added that this spending was reflected in the huge volume of projects in all fields, starting with projects:

1. Water and sanitation

2. Electricity and housing projects

3. Irrigation services, such as the Assiut Barrage Project, inaugurated by the President of the Republic.

4. Launching a complete system for supplies and commodities

5. Health services projects

6. Renewable energy projects in Aswan.

7. Agricultural reclamation projects in Toshka, eastern Owainat, western Minya, and Beni Suef.

All of these projects were established to increase the agricultural area and create more job opportunities in Upper Egypt, and a number of industrial zones were established.

102 billion pounds investments in Sohag

Focusing on Sohag Governorate, the volume of investments executed and being finalized in the governorate, as of mid-2014 until December 2022, exceeded 102 billion pounds in the six axes of development, namely: industry, transportation, educational services, health services, housing and basic utilities, social protection and "decent life" projects.

Social Welfare

The Prime Minister started with the axis of social care, which is concerned with building the human being, explaining that efforts in this axis focus on educational services, health care, as well as the social protection system.

Educational services

With regard to educational services, the Prime Minister confirmed that the state has built - in Sohag Governorate - the equivalent of 6,400 new classrooms, at a cost of more than 2 billion pounds.

3.3 billion pounds investments

Madbouly touched on the field of higher education, as he confirmed that the Egyptian state had pumped investments in Sohag Governorate amounting to about 3.3 billion pounds, and the main focus was on the new complex of Sohag University, which witnessed the establishment of more than 22 projects, with a total of approximately 900 million pounds.

It is currently witnessing the implementation of 17 other projects, including the establishment of new colleges at a cost of 1.8 billion pounds, so that Sohag University’s share of government investments in the field of higher education is about 2.8 billion pounds, which were pumped during the last 4 years only to create this distinguished entity.

It is planned to implement another private university on an area of 25 acres, in addition to that Sohag now has 10 higher, intermediate and technical institutes in Sohag governorate, providing services to the people of the governorate.

Health Services

Over the previous period, 32 hospitals, centers and health units were established and developed at a total cost of about EGP 5.4 billion, coinciding with the President's inauguration of Sohag University Hospital with a capacity of 300 beds.
