The Egyptian-Russian relations are witnessing great developments under the policy of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which aims to create positive and investment relations with many countries.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, on a bilateral visit aimed at following up the course of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The official spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry confirmed that the visit will provide an opportunity for the Egyptian and Russian sides to consult and exchange views on many international and regional files that affect the common interests of the two countries, including the developments of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

For his part, Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, affirmed that Russia considers Egypt a reliable partner with its country.

 And the Russian Foreign Minister added, during his speech at a joint talks session with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, in the Russian capital, that he discussed with Sameh Shoukry more cooperation at all levels between the two countries.

Egyptian-Russian Relations

·        Relations between Egypt and the Soviet Union were established in 1943. 

·        The first economic agreement signed between the two countries was in 1948.

·        Egypt was at the forefront of the countries that established relations with the Russian Federation.

·        The two countries became stronger during the reign of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Presidents El-Sisi and Putin exchanged visits between Cairo and Moscow

·        Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of relations with Egypt.  Putin indicated that Moscow views Egypt as one of the most important partners in Africa and the Arab world.

·        Putin added that Russia is working on completing large projects for cooperation with Egypt.  Putin made it clear that cooperation with Egypt is developing in many fields, especially energy and trade.

·        Putin say that “Egypt is one of the most important countries with which we have strong and strategic relations”.

Earlier, the Russian Central Bank announced the inclusion of the Egyptian pound in its group of currencies.

Banking experts considered this a positive indicator and an optimistic step in enhancing and facilitating trade exchange between the two countries and relieving pressure on the use of the dollar.
