US officials announced that Israel carried out, yesterday, a secret raid targeting a military facility in central Iran, in Isfahan province.

Isfahan province contains many important Iranian nuclear sites, such as the Natanz facility, which is at the heart of Iran's uranium enrichment program.

For its part, Iran said that its defenses thwarted an attack by suicide drones carrying explosives, on one of the ammunition factories of the Ministry of Defense in the center of Isfahan, near the largest uranium enrichment facility.

Israel is behind the secret strike

The American Wall Street Journal said that Israel was behind the secret strike, amid escalating regional and international tensions sweeping Iran.

This comes after 3 small drones targeted a military factory in Isfahan province.

The Israeli operation came at a time when Washington and Tel Aviv are discussing new ways to combat Iran's "destabilizing" operations, including deepening its military cooperation with Russia.

Iran has always accused Israel of planning attacks using agents inside Iran. Last July, Tehran said it had arrested saboteurs working for Israel who were planning to blow up a "sensitive" defense industrial center in Isfahan.

Operations inside Iran

Over the past few years, Iran has witnessed several attacks, some of which targeted nuclear and military facilities, in addition to the assassination of a number of personalities.

The Wall Street Journal considered that the attack was the first Israeli attack carried out by Israel under the new far-right coalition government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu authorized a series of daring operations inside Iran when he last served in the role from 2009 to 2021.

Earlier, the Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Aviv Kochavi, said that his forces had improved their readiness to strike Iranian nuclear targets, stressing that the level of preparation for an operation against Iran had improved significantly.

Last week, the United States and Israel carried out their largest joint military exercise in which more than 7,500 personnel from both countries participated.

This is to test their ability to destroy air defense systems and refueling aircraft.

Both could be the main components of a major military strike on Iran.
