44 billion yen.. An agreement between Egypt and Japan to support comprehensive health insurance
Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, and Kato Ken, Head of the Office of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Egypt, signed the executive agreement for concessional development financing, which amounts to about 44 billion Japanese yen. In a way that supports the state's efforts to achieve comprehensive health coverage for all members of the Egyptian family.
This agreement is an applied model for the friendly relations and economic cooperation between the two countries, and for the promotion of development efforts in Egypt.
Developing the health system in Egypt
This agreement is a new impetus for the development cooperation process between the Egyptian and Japanese sides.
It contributes to strengthening efforts to complete the extension of the national project for comprehensive health insurance throughout Egypt as the main tool for reforming the health sector, and providing comprehensive and integrated health care for all citizens, with high quality and reasonable cost.
Health Insurance
This step enhances the operational capabilities of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, raises the quality of medical services provided to citizens, and helps us complete the implementation of the new system during the next seven years, and achieve the desired goals according to the specified timetable.
Health sector
The minister explained: “We are keen to benefit from the Japanese experience in various fields, especially the health sector, within the framework of the Egyptian trend to enhance cooperation with development partners from friendly countries”.
It is scheduled to extend the comprehensive health insurance umbrella to the rest of the governorates of the first phase, Suez, Aswan, and South Sinai, before the end of the current fiscal year, and to complete the rest of the governorates, respectively.
