In light of the state's efforts to combat and treat tumors, the Ministry of Health and Population is working to increase the number of oncology centers affiliated to the Ministry.

One of the priorities of health files is to raise recovery rates and improve the level of services provided to patients, in order to achieve the vision of «Egypt 2030».

The Ministry of Health is working to raise health awareness

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that we are working on:

1- Raising health awareness among citizens of the importance of early detection and prevention methods through video clips on the Ministry's official pages on social media.

2- Health education teams that educate citizens about habits and practices that increase the risk of cancer, and places where early detection and treatment services are provided.

Number of centers providing services for detection and treatment of tumors.

Abdul Ghaffar added that the services provided by the state in oncology treatment centers vary between: providing services for early detection of tumors, diagnosis and treatment, referring to the provision of these services through:

  18 centers affiliated to the Specialized Medical Centers Secretariat.

  23 centers affiliated to the Supreme Council of University Hospitals.

  6 centers affiliated to the Hospitals and Teaching Institutes Authority.

  10 centers affiliated to the General Authority for Health Insurance, in all governorates of the Republic.

Abdel Ghaffar referred to the important role of public health initiatives launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, for the early detection of diseases.

The presidential initiative to eliminate hepatitis C and detect noncommunicable diseases was launched to provide early detection services for hepatitis C virus, which is the main cause of liver cancer, in addition to providing free follow-up and treatment services.

Supporting women's health

Presidential initiatives include the Women's Health Support Initiative, which aims to detect early breast cancer in women from the age of 18.

It provides its free services to examine women through 3,538 health units at the level of the governorates of the Republic, in addition to the participation of 102 hospitals to provide medical services to women whose condition requires an advanced examination.

Tumor etiology

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Moaty, Professor of Oncology, Cairo University and Dean of the National Cancer Institute, spoke about the causes of tumors.

He stressed the importance of avoiding the causes of tumors, the most important of which is smoking as the main cause of lung and throat tumors, as well as the importance of proper healthy food.

  Avoid pollutants, hydrogenated oils, preservatives, and alcohol, and avoid exposure to chemical substances and fumes.
