"Tourism" clarifies the reality of the inclination of a floating hotel in Luxor Governorate

Mohamed Amer, head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops and Tourist Activities at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, confirmed that the rumors about the floating hotel, which had been involved in a mile accident on the Luxor Corniche, were incorrect, and there were reports of its sinking.

He pointed out that this hotel did not sink or sail in the first place, and that it has completely stopped working since 2010, and its tourism license has not been renewed since that time to date, and it does not have any valid tourist operating license from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and it did not receive any guests. Egyptians or foreigners for more than 13 years.

He pointed out that before the incline incident, the hotel was present in the workshop throughout the previous period to carry out the necessary development and renovation works, so that it could work during the next winter season, after making sure that it had completed these works, and then conducting the necessary inspections for it from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. and renew its licence.

He confirmed that no re-operation inspections have been conducted by the ministry so far, and the hotel has not obtained any tourist operating license from the ministry.

Floating hotel

He explained that the hotel was exposed to this tendency while it was standing in preparation for the start of inspections for its operation by some concerned and related authorities.

For its part, the Ministry of Transport, represented by the General Authority for River Transport, explained that the aforementioned floating hotel had been out of operation since 2010.

The River Transport Authority noted that while the floating hotel was parked in the anchorage between two floating units, an inclination occurred on one of its sides, which led to its stability on the bottom of the anchorage without completely sinking.

The General Authority for River Transport indicated that it is awaiting the decision of the Public Prosecution, to determine the reasons for the inclination of the floating hotel.

For his part, Moataz Sedky, General Manager of Travco Holidays, said that there is an increase in the volume of demand to visit the Egyptian tourist destination during the current period, especially for the cities of Luxor and Aswan.

Occupancy rate of floating hotels

The occupancy rate of floating hotels operating between Luxor and Aswan, during the period from December 2022 to March 2023, exceeded 95%.

He pointed out that the number of floating hotels currently operating between Luxor and Aswan reaches 100 out of 300 hotels and boats. In addition to the current rise in accommodation prices by 50% compared to 2021.

He pointed out that the most prominent nationalities currently coming to visit cultural tourism cities are from the European and American markets and other nationalities, noting that there is a 50% increase in accommodation prices compared to the same period last year.
