To serve 10 billion people.. Huawei launches a clean development plan in various sectors

• Enabling clean development in various sectors

• Enhancing clean energy generation capabilities

• Adopt grid carbon density meter

Huawei, a leader in the information and communications technology sector, participated in the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP27) held in Sharm El-Sheikh.

·         Enabling clean development in various sectors

Huawei participated in the discussion session organized by the Global Innovation Center of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change entitled "Reliance on ICT to enable clean development", and the session dealt with the role of ICT in enabling clean development in various sectors and achieving the goals of net zero harmful emissions.

For his part, Philip Wang, Executive Vice President of Huawei in North Africa, said that ICT contributes to:

1- Achieving digital transformation

2- Promote innovation

3- Enabling sectors to contribute to preserving the environment.

4- Data analysis and cloud computing, process improvement and reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions.

5- ICT can automatically shut down 5G wireless stations when traffic stops in a way similar to turning off Smart Street lighting when traffic stops, reducing energy consumption.

6- Huawei has replaced diesel generators with solar panels, which provide a clean source of electric power in Nigeria and Angola, and the company has launched a clean antenna, which covers an area of up to 500 meters and consumes half of the transmission energy, reducing energy consumption by 30%.

·         Enhancing clean energy generation capabilities

For her part, Nombello Moravo, CEO of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at MTN Group, said, “Sustainable and measurable work plays a key role in achieving net zero goals as digital technologies contribute to enhancing clean energy generation capabilities and improving energy efficiency in various sectors.”

Lewis Neves, CEO of the Global Sustainability Empowerment Initiative, pointed out that climate conversations must focus on the role of digital technologies. It is possible to achieve sustainability and meet the requirements of development in a world with a population of 10 billion people and enhance health care by focusing on sustainability and reliance on technologies  digital".

·         Grid Carbon Density Energy Meter

On the other hand, ITU-T members, including Huawei, have proposed a standard for measuring grid energy consumption, and the industry has approved the standard, which is called "Grid Carbon Intensity Energy Meter".

The conference is scheduled to continue until November 18, with the attendance of 197 countries, to discuss policies and strategies to confront the damage caused by climate change.
