Facebook

The number of active users globally on the Meta platform (formerly Facebook) has reached 2.9 billion users, and the Meta suite of applications includes Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

The Meta Group generated $55.6 billion in revenue for Meta in the first half of 2022, representing 98% of the company’s total revenue.

A July report issued by DataReportal showed that users still spend more than two full days per month using various Meta platforms.

In the first half of 2022, Facebook had an average of 1.97 billion daily active users, a 3% year-over-year increase, and monthly active users reached 2.93 billion. In the first quarter alone, users of the platform on phones running the Android operating system spent an average of 19.4 hours per month on the application, according to the data analysis platform (data.ai) and citing a report (DataReportal).

YouTube

YouTube, the video display platform affiliated with Alphabet, is ranked second among the largest platforms with the number of active users globally, which has reached 2.5 billion users.

The YouTube platform was launched in 2005, and was acquired by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion in a stock deal. 2.5 billion active users globally as of July 2022, according to Forbes.

YouTube is not only an entertainment platform. 3 out of 10 people said that YouTube is their primary source for news.

The platform's users on phones running the Android operating system spent an average of 23.2 hours per month on YouTube, in the first quarter of 2022. Globally, India had the largest audience on YouTube, according to April 2022 data, followed by America according to the Statista platform. 

WhatsApp

The WhatsApp platform for instant messaging is ranked third on the list of the top 5 social media platforms that attract users around the world, and the number of users on it reached two billion in July 2022.

Facebook acquired the WhatsApp platform in 2014 for $19 billion.

The number of WhatsApp users around the world increased by 22% from the beginning of 2020 until the beginning of 2022.

In January 2018, WhatsApp released a standalone business app targeting small businesses (WhatsApp Business), which was one of the 10 most downloaded mobile apps in the world in the second quarter of 2022. The business app generated revenue of $300 million in 2021, according to For the Statista platform.

Instagram

Instagram launched the short video feature in 2020. The app also had 1.4 billion active users in July 2022.

WeChat

The Wechat platform is ranked fifth in the world, but it is the number one messaging and money trading application in China, and the number of active WeChat users reaches 1.3 billion users around the world.

Features of the Chinese WeChat application include food delivery programs, time management programs, and transportation programs. While e-commerce offers on the application in China achieved a total value of goods amounting to about 365 billion dollars in 2019, and may reach about 1.9 trillion dollars at the end of 2023, according to the (Statista) platform. While the platform had 1.3 billion active users in July 2022.
