The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in Saudi Arabia issued 99 new industrial licenses during the month of May 2023, distributed over six industrial activities, where the activity of making food products topped the industrial activities with 16 licenses, then the activity of making furniture with 10 licenses.

The ministry said that the activity of manufacturing other non-metallic mineral products, and the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, registered 9 licenses for each of them, and 8 licenses for each of the activity of manufacturing rubber and plastic products, and the activity of manufacturing formed metal products.

Industrial activities

According to the report issued by the National Center for Industrial and Mining Information of the Ministry, the total number of industrial licenses issued by the Ministry from the beginning of this year until the end of April amounted to 484 licenses.

  The number of existing and under construction factories in the Kingdom until the end of the same month reached 10,966, with investments amounting to 1.474 trillion riyals, according to the Saudi Press Agency, SPA.

The report indicated that the volume of investments in new licenses for the month of May amounted to 20.1 billion riyals, and small enterprises acquired most of the new industrial licenses during the same month by 88.89%, followed by medium enterprises by 10.10%, then micro enterprises by 1.01%.

National factories recorded the largest percentage of the total licenses issued by type of investment at 73.74%, followed by foreign establishments at 15.15%, then joint investment establishments at 11.11%.

Foreign investment

The report of the National Center for Industrial and Mining Information showed that the factories that started production during the month of May amounted to 98 factories, with an investment volume of 3.3 billion riyals, led by non-metallic minerals factories with 18 factories, then shaped minerals with 12 factories, food factories with 11 factories, 10 factories in the activity of rubber and plastics manufacturing, and finally 9 factories for furniture.

The national factories accounted for the total factories that started production by 83.67%, followed by joint-investment factories and foreign-invested factories with 8.16%.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in Saudi Arabia issues, through the National Center for Industrial and Mining Information, on a monthly basis, the most important industrial indicators that explain the nature of the movement of industrial activity in the Kingdom, in addition to revealing the size of the change witnessed by the sector in new industrial investments and factories that have started production.
