$320 million.. The volume of Egyptian medical supplies exports abroad

The Central Bank of Egypt made extraordinary efforts to solve the problem of the Egyptian ports' overcrowding with import shipments, including shipments for the medical supplies sector.

Release of 55 shipments for the medical supplies sector

The General Division for Medical Supplies at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce received a letter from Dr. Gamal Negm, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, confirming that the Central Bank issued instructions to banks to give priority in foreign exchange management to Egypt’s imports of medicine, medical supplies, and other strategic commodities.

  This was reflected in the release of 55 shipments for the medical supplies sector during the past month, and the problem of another 98 shipments in Egyptian ports is currently being resolved.

It must be noted that the medical supplies sector is one of the sectors that generate foreign currency, as the value of its exports last year amounted to about 320 million dollars, and with a little interest and incentives, it can be doubled to at least one billion dollars.

The sector's imports represent only 1% of the total Egyptian imports, and a large proportion of them are raw materials and production requirements or products that are not manufactured locally, such as medical devices.

In this regard, Ali Muhammad Abdo, a member of the Board of Directors of the General Division for Medical Supplies at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, stressed the importance of continuing coordination and communication with the Central Bank to solve the problems of procuring foreign exchange for the sector’s factories, as 60 to 70 percent of raw materials and production requirements are imported.

Therefore, any delay in the release of these raw materials negatively affects the sector's factories and their ability to export, and most importantly, to provide the needs of hospitals and public and university medical centers.

The Egyptian Charitable Association  

Regarding the position of establishing the Egyptian Charitable Association in Sayeda Zainab, which the General Division is working to establish, the association will work as soon as the procedures for its declaration are completed, as a headquarters has been selected and furnished in Al-Rashidi Street in the Sayeda Zainab neighborhood, and a member of the General Division and the owner of clinics and analysis laboratories will provide care Free medical (examination and analysis) for the beneficiaries of the charity services.

Electronic invoice

Most of the sector's 6,200 companies have been implementing the electronic bill system for two years, so that they can continue dealing with government agencies that require their customers to deal with the electronic bill that is expected to be imposed on all commercial and professional customers at the end of April 2023.
