$15 billion.. «Maersk» investments in Suez Canal

General Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority, spoke about the crossing of 107 ships in the canal yesterday, as the highest daily crossing rate in the history of the canal.

He explained: "We absorb 92% of the world's ships”, and developing the work of the southern sector. 

Osama Rabie continued “We are working on completing works related to the Suez Canal through the Bitter Lakes, with a distance of 10 km”.

He explained “We are working on expansion and deepening, and the depth will be 72 feet, By the end of this year, we will finish the project, and after that we will make the entire channel 72 feet deep”.

Rabih added “We follow the developments that occur every day in maritime transport ships, and we will be ready for anything, and contract with new locomotives to accommodate the increase in ships”.

The head of the Suez Canal Authority continued, that the development of the 40 km between widening, deepening and duplication will improve navigation in this part of the canal by 28%, which is a large number, and the number of ships in the navigational channel will also be increased by 6 ships.

Green canal in 2030

The head of the Suez Canal Authority continued: "We announced at the COP27 Climate Summit that the Suez Canal will be a green canal in 2030, as we converted the 16 monitoring stations along the canal to renewable energy using wind and sun, and the pilot cars all switched from fossil fuels to gas."

$15 billion investments

Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority, confirmed: “We contracted with a company to collect solid and liquid waste from ships in Port Said and Suez.

He added that “Maersk” company has talked about investments amounting to $15 billion over 5 years, and this came through a center for (methanol) alternative fuels.
