President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued Resolution No. 373 of 2023 allocating a plot of land with an area of approximately 403.83 acres, equivalent to 1,696,461 square meters of privately owned state-owned area, in the Old Cairo neighborhood in Cairo Governorate, for the benefit of the Urban Development Fund for use in implementing the Fustat Hills Project.

The Fustat Gardens Development Project, in Cairo, is considered one of the largest green projects being implemented in Cairo Governorate, which works to develop the cultural aspect of the archaeological and historical areas in Cairo to make them attractive tourist destinations.

12 Information about the Fustat Hills project

1. Al-Fustat Gardens, in the Old Cairo district, is scheduled to be the largest of its kind in the Middle East.

2. Fustat Hills Park is located on an area of 500 acres in a central location in the heart of historic Cairo.

3. Al-Fustat Gardens includes the Museum of Civilization, Ain Al-Sira Lake, the Religious Complex, and the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque. The gardens integrate with the cultural nature of the place and create a qualitative environmental shift as the largest green outlet in the heart of Cairo.

4. The efficiency of the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque was restored and raised, as the efficiency of the lighting networks, the acoustics network, the minarets, and the dome were raised, rain and fire networks were implemented, ceilings, columns, pulpits, and mihrab were restored, and interior and exterior finishes included changing the flooring in the courtyard of the mosque to a distinctive type of marble, and insulation. Roofs, and construction of an administrative building.

5. The hill and valley area is being implemented and includes creating ditches and paths and forming a green river that passes through the crops.

6. The currently existing soil will be formed into three pillars through which the watercourse will pass. The implementation rate is 96% for excavation and backfilling works and 47% for pedestrian works.

7. A cultural area is being implemented that includes the implementation of a waterway, rows of palm trees, an adventure area, hills, an Islamic Garden, and a fountain.

8. An investment area is being implemented, including commercial buildings, restaurants, a Roman theater, and a water fountain.

9. The Kasbah area is also being implemented, and is witnessing the implementation of a hotel area with an area of 130,000 square meters, which includes a tourist hotel, service buildings, parking lots, an artificial lake, and agricultural areas.

10. The adventure area includes a number of service buildings, lakes and crops.

11. The heritage gardens area, which includes the implementation of buildings for visitors and restaurants.

12. The markets area consists of a commercial area with an area of 60,000 square meters and the implementation of 19 commercial stores, parking lots, an artificial lake, agricultural spaces, and a 3-star hotel.

Development of Fustat Gardens

In general, the Fustat Gardens Development Project witnesses the establishment of infrastructure facilities linking all areas of the project, in addition to a plant for treating rainwater, agricultural drainage, and groundwater on an area of 500 acres.

Gates and fences with a total length of 4,900 meters are being implemented with 4 gates, including historical, modern and garden gates.

The excavation and restoration work is being carried out in the archaeological city of Fustat, and represents a continuation of efforts to highlight the treasures of Egyptian civilization in its various eras.

The project aims to transform the region into an environmental, tourist and cultural park for visitors. The park represents a view of Egypt’s immortal history to become a regional and global tourist destination that reflects the ancient Egyptian civilization.

The project includes a number of activities that rely on reviving Egyptian heritage across the various Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and modern eras, as well as a group of cultural and commercial activities, hotel services and outdoor theatres.

There is an area of ancient antiquities and excavations, and an area of heritage gardens, as well as a large plateau in the middle that allows unique visual communication with the Pyramids of Giza, the Citadel of Saladin, and the minarets of Cairo.
