The Israeli government, headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, has issued bids to build more than 1,000 new units in Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to the Israeli anti-settlement movement Peace Now.

The movement said the Israel Lands Authority published tenders earlier this week for the construction of 940 units in the West Bank settlements of "Efrat" "Beitar Illit", as well as 89 units in the Gilo settlement, which lies above the 1967 line on the southern edge of Jerusalem.

Saudi Arabia condemned

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemned the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to publish bids to build settlement units during the current week inside the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom's condemnation of this decision, which is a continuation of the flagrant violations committed by the occupation authorities.

Building more than 1,000 new homes in Jewish settlements

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right government has authorized construction bids for more than 1,000 new homes in Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The move comes days after the Knesset voted to rescind part of a law that bars Israelis from living in areas of the occupied West Bank that were evacuated in 2005.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to end the Israeli occupation and stop its provocative practices that would obstruct the paths of political solutions and undermine international peace efforts.

Last month, the Israeli government pledged to temporarily freeze the approval of establishing new settlement units in the West Bank, yet it granted the government approval for more than 7,000 new units in settlements in the West Bank.
