Investment between Egypt and Sudan

The Egyptian-Sudanese economic relations culminated in the unique political relations, including the rising volume of investments, trade exchange and major economic projects.

 During recent years, economic relations witnessed remarkable growth, and these relations are governed by cooperation agreements and protocols.

In June 2014 AD, after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi assumed the presidency, the two countries discussed ways to activate the Four Freedoms Agreement, which stipulated: freedom of movement, freedom of residence, freedom of work, and freedom of property between the two countries.

 The representation of the joint committee between the two countries was raised to the presidential level to meet once in Cairo and once in Khartoum.

Qastal-Ashket land port

In 2015, the most recent joint project launched between the two countries was the “Qastal-Ashket land port” project.

The port is the most important Egyptian gateway overlooking Africa, as it contributes to a major shift in the trade and investment movement between Egypt on the one hand and Sudan and the African continent on the other.

This is done through developing the movement of exports and imports of goods and livestock and stimulating the movement of passengers.

Total investments

The total volume of Sudanese investments in Egypt during the fiscal year 2019/2020 is about $97 million, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. Marble, medicine, cosmetics, furniture, iron and food industries.

There is also interest in attracting Egyptian investments to Sudan in the agricultural sector, in order to cultivate large areas of wheat to produce what bridges the gap in Sudan and Egypt, in addition to promising opportunities for cotton production to meet the needs of the Egyptian industry.

joint projects

In addition to investment, there are joint projects between the two countries, for example:

 - The construction of the coastal road between Egypt and Sudan with a length of 280 km. 

- The "Qastal" and "Wadi Halfa" road project, with a length of 34 km inside Egyptian territory, and 27 km inside Sudanese territory, 

- The development and restructuring of railway lines, to facilitate the movement of goods and people.

 - The electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Sudan, where Egypt supplies Sudan with about 300 megawatts in its first phase, adding 600 megawatts in a later stage, to reach 3 thousand megawatts.

- Strategic projects for land reclamation.

 - Egyptian project for the production of meat in Sudan on an area of ​​40 thousand An acre in the White Nile State

- A project for the Egyptian-Sudanese Navigation Company between the ports of Aswan and Halfa, in order to transport goods, people, and tourism. 

  Trade exchange

The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Sudan witnessed a remarkable increase, as the volume of trade between the two countries in 2021 recorded about one billion and $165 million, compared to about $725 million in 2020, an increase of 60%, with a difference of $440 million.

 The value of Egyptian exports to Sudan jumped to $826.8 million during In 2021, compared to $498.9 million in 2020, an increase of 65.7%, while the value of Egyptian imports from Sudan amounted to $336.7 million, compared to $212.5 million, an increase of 58.5%.
