The travel sector has been affected since the Covid-19 epidemic that struck the world in the spring of 2020, including airlines.

64 airlines have suspended operations

Since 2020, at least 64 airlines have suspended operations, according to AllPlane.tv, a website that specializes in the aviation industry and air travel.

"If you look at the airlines that have gone out of business, it's a staggering number," said Steve Ehrlich, president of Pilots Together, a charity set up during the pandemic to help pilots who have been laid off from their jobs.

However, bankruptcies have returned for a number of airlines, while ticket prices are rising, as prices for economy class tickets increased by 36 percent, according to data from the “Flight Center”, a UK-based booking agency.

Reservations are still down 22 percent globally during the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2019, according to ForwardKeys, a company that provides comprehensive data on international travel reservations.
