Mamdouh Ismail added that there are expected revenues of $5 billion from the development of the ports of Sokhna and Dekheila.
Pointing out that the commercial centers open the doors to more job opportunities and thus generate a large income for the state and help in the development process.
Suez Canal
He pointed out that the Suez Canal Authority has proven that it is indispensable to the world in international trade exchange, regardless of what some have talked about other alternatives.
He explained that the Suez Canal will remain the most important commercial corridor for several advantages, the most important of which is the shortening of the distance, the ease of container crossing, the safe route and the low cost, so it is the lifeblood of the international economy.
On a connected level, Egypt has been an investment hub for Hutchison International Ports for more than 15 years.
Among the last stages of cooperation between Egypt and the international company, an agreement came to sign two commitment contracts for the projects of constructing the superstructure and managing, operating, exploiting, maintaining and re-delivering a container terminal in the port of Sokhna.
The first project in Sokhna port
Establishment of the superstructure, management, operation, exploitation, maintenance and re-delivery of the container terminal at Berth 100 in Dekheila, to implement the first project in the port of Sokhna between the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal and the Hutcheson COSCO-CMA alliance.
The second project in Dekheila Port
While the second project is being implemented in Dekheila Port between the Alexandria Port Authority and the Hutcheson-MSC alliance.
“Dekheila” container
The new Dekheila container terminals of Hutchison Ports in Alexandria have an area of 84 hectares, with a length of 1,200 meters for the berth, and 18 meters for the draft depth, in addition to 9 berth cranes and 31 gantry cranes, with a total investment estimated at $600 million.
Hutchison ports in Ain “Sukhna”
The area of Hutchison ports in Ain Sukhna is 156 hectares, with a berth length of 2600, and a draft depth of 18 meters, with initial investments estimated at $600 million. In the near future, Ain Sukhna will be able to handle the largest container ships in the world.
