$462 million.. 5 largest Arab investments in Sudan
According to the UNCTAD World Investment Report 2022, Sudan has received foreign investments worth $462 million.
Sudan ranked last among the Arab countries that attracted foreign direct investment over the past year, as a result of political turmoil.
According to the UNCTAD World Investment Report for 2022, Sudan received foreign investments worth $462 million, and the UAE topped the list with foreign investments amounting to $20.6 billion, Saudi Arabia $19.2 billion, and Egypt $5.1 billion.
Saudi Arabia is the largest Arab investor in Sudan
The investments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Sudan amounted to $35.8 billion over the past 10 years, and most of them come in the agricultural sector. Riyadh supports 250 agricultural projects in Sudan.
The agricultural sector in Sudan is considered one of the most important sectors that attract Arab investments. Sudan has 175 million acres suitable for cultivation, in addition to an animal wealth of 102 million head of livestock.
UAE invests $7 billion in Sudan
The UAE Minister of Energy and Industry, Suhail Al Mazrouei, said that the volume of UAE investments in Sudan exceeds $7 billion, most of which are concentrated in the agricultural sector.
In June of last year, the chairman of the Sudanese “DALN” group, Osama Dawood Abdel Latif, announced that the UAE will build a new port in Sudan on the Red Sea with an investment package amounting to $6 billion, according to Reuters.
The investment package includes the establishment of a free trade zone, a large agricultural project, and a $300 million deposit in the Central Bank of Sudan, according to Abdel Latif. He added that the port is located 200 km north of Port Sudan, explaining that the project is in "advanced stages" with the completion of studies and designs.
Kuwaiti investments in Sudan
Kuwaiti investments in Sudan amount to $7 billion, and last February, the Kuwaiti telecom company, Zain, announced pumping investments worth $800 million to invest in Sudan over the next five years, according to Kuwaiti Ambassador to Sudan Fahd Mashar Al-Dhafiri in February 2023.
The General Authority for Investment expressed its desire to explore new investment opportunities in Sudan, according to the ambassador last February, and Kuwait's investments are concentrated in agriculture.
An integrated economic partnership between Egypt and Sudan
Egypt is one of the most important countries investing in Sudan, and its investments exceed $2.7 billion by the end of 2022, most of which are concentrated in the agricultural sector for meat production in the White Nile state, construction and infrastructure, and the trade exchange between the two countries during the past year amounted to $1.4 billion.
Egypt investments in Sudan
Egypt and Sudan are connected to an electrical interconnection project with a capacity of 80 megawatts at the present time, and it is intended to increase it in the second phase to 300 megawatts, to reach 3 thousand megawatts in the third phase, in addition to a project for the Egyptian-Sudanese navigation company between the ports of Aswan and Halfa, for the transportation of goods, people and tourism.
Qatar's investments in Sudan
Qatari investments in Sudan have recorded less than two billion dollars, and they are concentrated in agricultural and real estate projects, in addition to infrastructure projects.
In addition, Qatar announced the signing of initial agreements worth $4 billion with the Sudanese government to develop the port of Suakin on the Red Sea coast.
