Apple has announced that it will develop its own autocorrect feature so as not to change one of the most common insults to the word "ducking".

"When you want to type an underlined word, the keyboard will learn it too," said Craig Federighi, Apple's chief software officer.

One of Apple's most notable events is probably the iPhone maker's tweak that will keep it autocorrect feature from annoyingly correcting one of its most common phrases to "scrambling around."

“For those moments when you just want to type a vulgar word, well, the keyboard will learn it too,” said Craig Federighi, Apple's chief software officer.

The iPhone keyboard's autocorrect feature has always had its quirks, sometimes taking a misspelled word while you're texting and replacing what it deems a logical choice that ends up changing the meaning of a particular phrase or sentence.

Events like this generally result in follow-up texts along the lines of "Damn autocorrect!" But the " ducking" substitution is a long-running source of fun or frustration, depending on how many times one has had to retype their own texts or yell at their device (the iPhone can't correct verbal adjectives).

Of course, iPhone users have always had the option to turn off the autocorrect feature on their phones, which will allow its bad users to be as vulgar as they want.

Apple shares

Apple shares hit an all-time record on Monday, bringing the company's market valuation to under $3 trillion, also a record. Its gain of 280% over the past five years clearly shows the iPhone's market share strength.

New headset

Aside from tweaking text messages, the company had a lot on its agenda - an expensive new mixed reality headset, and details on a desktop and laptop revamp.

The US tech giant claims the device is "the most advanced personal electronic device ever".

Pair of ski goggles

Resembling a pair of ski goggles, it features a glass 23-million-pixel screen which covers the upper face and is controlled using the wearer's eyes, hands and voice.

Vision Pro is labelled as "mixed reality" as it combines "virtual reality", in which the wearer is fully immersed in the digital world, with "augmented reality" where digital images are overlaid on to the real world.

Available online

The device, which is the first new product since the Apple Watch was launched in 2015, blends a video feed from the outside world with a virtual world displayed on screens inside the headset.

It is set to rival Meta's Quest Pro from last year and Quest 3 announced last week.

However, costing $3,499 (£2,849), Vision Pro also comes with a heftier price tag than the planned $500 (£402) for Quest 3.

"Today marks the beginning of a new era for computing," said Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, as he launched the new device at the company's annual software developer conference.

"Blending digital content with the real world can unlock experiences like nothing we've ever seen."

It will be available online and in Apple stores in the US from early next year and will come to more countries "later next year".

The company also gave updates on its operating systems for iPhones, iPads and Mac computers.
