The Saudi national team achieved a historic victory over Argentina in the biggest surprises of the World Cup, 2-1, in the match that brought them together at Lusail Stadium, in the first round of the group stage of the Qatar World Cup 2022.

The Saudi team turned its delay with a goal in the first half into a two-goal lead with the start of the second half, as Argentine star Lionel Messi scored in the 10th minute from a penalty kick, then Saleh Al-Shehri equalized in the 48th minute, and then Salem Al-Dosari added the second goal in the 53rd minute of the second half.

A stunning second half comeback, with goals from Salem Al-Dawsari and Saleh Al-Sheheri, cancelled out Lionel Messi’s opening penalty and enabled Saudi Arabia to beat Argentina 2-1 in the venue that has been chosen to host the World Cup final on December 18.

Saudi Arabia head coach Herve Renard felt fate was on his team’s side as they pulled off one of the greatest shocks in World Cup history.

Renard, a Frenchman who once managed Cambridge United for five games in 2004 and who took Morocco to the 2018 World Cup, did his best to keep a lid on expectations but he felt Saudi Arabia had the extra hunger that enabled them to pull of this result.
