The Dubai Air Show 2023, in its largest edition ever, witnessed aircraft purchase orders of approximately 73 billion dollars, on its first day, to be the largest number of orders ever in one day.

Dubai World Central Airport hosted the events, which will continue until next Friday, and will be attended by top aviation industry leaders and innovators, with the aim of discussing and defining future trends and exploring opportunities to benefit from them.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, together with the Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, opened the activities of the exhibition in its 18th edition, which brings together more than 1400 exhibitors from 148 countries.

The exhibition received great attention and turnout, and the huge deals were the dominating feature of the first day's activities, due to the great demand from Moroccan, Turkish and Jordanian airlines, as well as Egyptian and other countries, according to what was covered by many local media.

The most prominent deals

The Baltic Airlines has decided to increase its orders by committing to another 30 narrow-body A-220 aircraft, while retaining the rights to purchase another 20 aircraft of the lighter single-aisle model, as reported by the Emirates Gulf newspaper.

By moving to Emirates Airline, the company concluded a large order for "Boeing" aircraft, and also entered into an agreement with the American manufacturer to purchase 90 wide-body "777X" aircraft, which is expected to be launched, as well as 5 aircraft of the smaller "787" model.

It is planned to increase the company's commitment to 35 aircraft, 15 of the "787-10" model and 20 of the "787-8" model in total, while the value of the deal is estimated at about 52 billion dollars before the usual discounts in the sector, according to what was quoted by the Emirates News Agency "Wam".

Boeing leads the scene

During the activities of the first day of the exhibition, it was clearly observed that Boeing dominated the scene, as the company obtained a deal to supply about 90 narrow-body "737 Max" aircraft to the Turkish "Sun Express" company, according to Bloomberg Al-Sharq.

Royal Jordanian Airlines agreed to purchase 4 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, and Royal Moroccan Airlines also submitted a repeated request to purchase a 787 Dreamliner aircraft, and confirmed an order for two 787-9 aircraft in its order record, according to what was reported by the Emirates News Agency.

And EgyptAir agreed to the financial leasing of 18 "737-8" aircraft from the "Air Lis" company, as well as its intention to increase its fleet to 125 aircraft during the next five years.

206 commercial aircraft

According to the Emirates News Agency, the number of commercial aircraft in deals on the first day of the Dubai Air Show reached 206 aircraft as confirmed orders, in addition to 45 aircraft in purchase options.

Emirates Airline and Flydubai had the lion's share in more than 60% of the confirmed orders, in fact 95 aircraft for Emirates Airline and 30 aircraft for Flydubai, while the latter and the American company Boeing announced a deal in which Flydubai commits to the purchase of 30 Boeing 9-787 Dreamliner aircraft for a total value of up to $11 billion.

73.2 billion dollars as a result of commercial orders

According to what the Khaleej newspaper published, the first days of the 2023 Dubai Air Show recorded confirmed purchase deals for commercial aircraft, excluding purchase options, with a value of up to 73.2 billion dollars (268.6 billion dirhams).

And "Emirates Airlines" and "Fly Dubai" acquired 73.2% of the commercial deals announced, equivalent to 63 billion dollars, for about 231 billion dirhams.

A global platform to support innovation

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Emirate's Executive Council, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, toured the "Dubai Air Show", during which he inspected a number of pavilions of participating local and international companies that display the latest technological innovations in the aviation sector, defense systems and the field of civil aviation.

According to statements quoted by the Khaleej newspaper, yesterday Monday, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi said that the exhibition represents an outstanding international event, bringing together specialized companies and those interested in aviation matters, in addition to being an important platform to support innovation and accelerate the pace of development of new technologies, and the adoption of sustainable practices in the aviation sector.

And the statements of Italian Defense Minister Guido Crocito came in support of Al Nahyan's previous speech, where he considered that the Dubai Air Show 2023 is one of the most important gatherings in the world for the aviation, space exploration and defense sectors, emphasizing the size of the international participation in it, including the Italian participation, describing the event as a global platform to showcase its most prominent innovations in the sector.

4.7 billion dirhams Ministry of Defense deals

During a press conference held yesterday Monday, both Zayed Saeed Al-Marikhi and Majid Ahmed Al-Jabri, the official spokesmen for the Balance Council - which is the body responsible for managing acquisitions, purchases and contracts for the Ministry of Defense - stated that the first day of the Dubai Air Show 2023 witnessed the conclusion of 9 deals, worth 4 billion and 700 million dirhams with local and international companies.

And Zayed al-Marikhi reported that the total domestic deals for the first day of the Dubai Air Show 2023, which amounted to 4 deals worth 2 billion and 700 million dirhams, according to what was quoted by the Al-Bayan newspaper.
