The executive regulations of the Capital Market Law No. 95 of 1992 introduced a new article permitting a license to establish a sustainable development investment fund that invests in green projects or projects that take into account environmental and social dimensions.
The fund’s investment structure consists in particular of the following:
1- Shares and financing instruments for companies and projects working in the areas of sustainable development and other financial instruments that support sustainable development.
2- Debt instruments issued by companies working in sustainable development projects, provided that their credit rating is not less than the minimum determined by the Authority’s Board of Directors.
3- Other sustainable development investment fund documents that are compatible with the fund’s objectives.
4- Bank and demand deposits, treasury bills and other liquidity instruments according to the ratios specified in the subscription prospectus or information memorandum.
The fund manager is committed to preparing a technical and financial study for each investment that the fund wishes to create, participate in, acquire or manage.
It is noteworthy that the Sustainable Development Investment Fund is a fund that aims to invest in economic activities related to green projects or projects that take into account environmental and social dimensions, and its documents may be offered publicly or privately.
Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Chairman of the Financial Supervisory Authority, previously confirmed that the amendments expanded the scope of traded investment funds, provided that they follow a reference index approved by the Authority, and its documents may be registered for trading on Egyptian stock exchanges in accordance with the controls issued by the Authority’s Board of Directors to allow liquidity on the documents to enable trading. On the documents in a way that makes it easier for investors to deal with them and contributes to expanding the customer base.
