''Reduce gas emissions''.. Agreement between Eni and EGAS
Agreement between Eni and EGAS

Tarek El-Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Claudio Descalzi, President of the Italian company Eni, signed a memorandum of intent on technological integration to reduce and evaluate flare gases and other emission reduction technology.

The agreement was signed between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and the Italian company Eni.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Magdy Galal, President of EGAS, and Guido Brusco, Head of Natural Resources Operations at Eni.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between EGAS, the Electricity Holding Company and Eni; with a view:

1- Cooperate in identifying and evaluating joint opportunities to support carbon removal by identifying business opportunities in the field of energy transition that includes the collection, capture, storage and use of carbon.

2- Eni has advanced expertise and technologies in the field of reducing emissions and capturing and storing carbon and benefiting from it.

3- Eni confirmed its commitment to serious cooperation and partnership with EGAS in the carbon removal process and supporting the reduction of direct emissions of greenhouse gases, by reducing the burning of flare gas and reducing methane emissions.

4- The Italian company confirmed pumping investments in the natural gas industry and energy efficiency, which will allow the use of flare gases in the production of hydrocarbons.

5- The two companies will study and identify opportunities available for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in oil and gas sector projects in Egypt.

6- According to the agreement, a master plan will be prepared for the economic utilization of the gases generated from these operations.

7- EGAS and ENI will take important steps to reduce the burning of flare gases and emissions to the lowest technical level, and to evaluate and implement several initiatives to reduce greenhouse gases.

8- Photovoltaic modules are established and carbon capture, storage and use initiatives are evaluated.

This memorandum comes within the framework of Egypt's commitment to global initiatives aimed at preserving the environment, reducing emissions and confronting the effects of climate change, and as a continuation of the efforts and initiatives announced during the COP27 Climate Summit, which Egypt hosted last November in Sharm El-Sheikh.
