Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, the World Green Economy Organization and the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai are organizing the ninth session of the World Green Economy Summit on November 28 and 29, 2023.

This session of the World Green Economy Summit coincides with the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which is hosted by the United Arab Emirates in Expo City Dubai.

This session of the World Green Economy Summit continues to build on the results and outcomes of previous sessions by enhancing joint work with all parties and partners to discuss ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop innovative solutions to combat the effects of climate change, in addition to highlighting forward-looking solutions for a rapid and just transition to an integrated global green economy, according to the Emirati newspaper Al Bayan.

Under the slogan “Paving the way towards the future: accelerating the wheel of the global green economy,” the summit discusses a range of topics to accelerate the transition towards a green economy, including energy, finance, food security, reducing carbon emissions, youth, innovation, strategy for environmental and social practices, corporate governance, new and smart technologies, and policies. The Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, said: With the support and directives of the wise leadership, the UAE, represented by its government agencies and the private sector, is working to build a work system that supports strategic directions to enhance environmental and climate sustainability in the country, which also plays an important role in global climate and environmental action and pushes towards... Hosting the COP28 Conference of the Parties

The Minister of Climate Change and Environment continued: “As we approach hosting the COP28 Conference of the Parties in the country at the end of this month, we confirm that the green economy will be one of the most prominent topics for discussion within the framework of the UAE’s agenda during the conference, through which we set important priorities, namely ensuring a fair and equitable energy transition in The world, by enabling developing countries to obtain the financing and technology necessary to bring about this transformation, while enhancing the capabilities of those countries to launch projects that help them confront and adapt to climate change.”

Al Muhairi added: The green economy strongly supports these trends, and the Green Economy Summit comes at an ideal time to shed light on the most important and latest pillars of the green economy that can be shared with the countries participating in COP28.

Transition to a green economy

Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai and President of the World Green Economy Organization, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said: “The transition to a green economy requires changes that include economic structures, production and consumption patterns, and institutions of all sizes.
