77,000 cars run on natural gas .. Achievements of the Ministry of Petroleum in 2022
Engineer Tarek El-Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, revealed the ministry's achievements during 2022 and how it succeeded in providing many services to Egyptians.
Natural gas was among the priorities of the state to provide it to citizens, within the framework of implementing the presidential initiative to expand the use of natural gas as fuel for cars.
The Ministry of Petroleum is working hard to expand the activity of converting cars to run on natural gas and increase the number of compressed natural gas stations as well as centers for converting cars to run on gas at the level of the Republic.
Al-Mulla added that the ministry carried out many works in this regard during the year 2022, including:
1. Converting 77 thousand cars to operate on compressed natural gas during the year, an increase of 16% over 2021, bringing the total number of converted cars since the start of the activity until the end of 2022 to 483 thousand cars.
2. Establishing 125 stations supplying compressed natural gas during the year, bringing the total number of stations to 862 stations since the start of the activity.
3. The monthly average of compressed natural gas sales for cars increased from 73 million cubic meters in 2021 to 93 million cubic meters in 2022, an increase of 27%.
4. 101 new stations and outlets for supplying and servicing cars, and 18 new centers for distributing butane gas cylinders were put into operation nationwide, with a total of 3092 centers.
5. Gas was delivered to between 1.1 and 1.2 million housing units annually, equivalent to 19 million butane gas cylinders, which were replaced and saved as a result of gas delivery during the year.
6. The total number of housing units to which gas has been connected to 14 million housing units at the level of the governorates of the Republic since the start of the activity until the end of December 2022.
7. Natural gas was delivered to 200 new areas where natural gas will enter for the first time in 2022, and it was delivered to 1,825 commercial consumers and 124 factories.
8. Gas has been connected to 185 villages since the beginning of the project and so far serving about 620,000 customers. Work began during the year to extend ground gas networks to 700 villages, in addition to 534 villages included in the government sewage plan, Gas will be delivered to them in conjunction with the implementation of the connections, household sanitation.
9. The value of natural gas exports increased to $8.4 billion, compared to $3.5 billion in 2021, an increase of 171%, due to the increase in global liquefied gas prices.
10. Fifty-three new discoveries of oil and gas were achieved, with 42 oil discoveries and 11 gas discoveries in the Western Desert, the Gulf of Suez, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Nile Delta.
11. The year 2022 witnessed the continuation of the implementation of 5 new oil refining and processing complexes and projects in Alexandria, Assiut and Suez to produce high-quality petroleum products to cover the needs of the local market, at a total cost of more than $8 billion.
