$1.650 billion.. volume of trade exchange between Iraq and Egypt
During the year 2020, the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Iraq reached 486 million dollars.
The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, received the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani, who is on an official visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The Egyptian President expressed "Egypt's desire and readiness to cooperate with Iraq in various fields."
For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister expressed his country's readiness to move forward in maturing joint work with Egypt, stressing Iraq's openness to new horizons of cooperation and integration in various fields with Egypt.
Al-Sudani and Al-Sisi discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Egypt and ways to consolidate them, in addition to discussing a number of regional and international issues of common concern, according to what the Iraqi Cabinet Office announced.
Egyptian-Iraqi relations
Diplomatic relations were established between the two countries, which were among the founders of the League of Arab States, in the mid-1940s
The Egyptian-Iraqi relations are historical and well-established, as Iraq stood by Egypt in the October 1973 war.
Egypt stood by Iraq in its war against Iran during the period 1980-1988, and Egypt was one of the first countries to host the Conference of Iraq's Neighboring Countries in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2007.
Iraq and Egypt have recently deepened their bilateral cooperation by signing 15 agreements, memorandums of understanding and cooperation protocols in several fields.
High trade turnover
Trade exchange between Egypt and Iraq increased from $800 million in 2015 to $1.650 billion in 2018, which is the largest number of trade exchange since 2003, according to data from the State Information Service.
